How can I help?

The condition

Abdominal pains, unpredictable toilet habits, swelling and more, make irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) one of the most common and  unpleasant gastrointestinal conditions to live with.

There is no single cause. In some people, eating irregularly or taking an abnormal diet may be responsible.

Others notice IBS developing after they have had a bout of food poisoning or gastroenteritis and others find that stress is a trigger.

The symptoms

Treating IBS

With so many potential causes, accurate testing is key to successful long-term treatment. Dr Bansi may test to see if avoiding certain food groups like wheat could help the condition.

Drugs to reduce bowel spasms and alleviate the worst effects can also be effective.
