Background

Dr Devinder Bansi qualified from Southampton University Medical School in 1988. He completed several junior medical posts and knew very early on that he wanted to work in gastroenterology.

In 1993, Dr Bansi was appointed Research Fellow in Gastroenterology at Oxford’s prestigious and internationally acclaimed John Radcliffe Hospital. He completed his MD thesis in the field and also had several peer-reviewed research papers published in acclaimed journals.

In 1996, Dr Bansi returned to London as Senior Specialist Registrar and undertook further advanced training in therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP and oesophageal physiology.

Upon completion of gastroenterology and general medical training, Dr Bansi was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Medicine to the prestigious Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of Imperial College.)

Dr Bansi is now one of the senior and leading interventional endoscopists at the trust He is also one of London’s foremost experts in bariatric endoscopy procedures for weight loss and works with the leading London Weight Centre.

He is actively involved in a number of UK and international studies investigating methods of achieving weight loss using endoscopy rather than surgical methods.

Memberships

He is formerly a member of the Hammersmith Hospitals Research Committee, and an active member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Society for Bariatric Endoscopy. He is also a Council Member for The Chelsea Clinical Society.

Experience

Dr Bansi has over 30 years’ experience performing endoscopies and has a very high level of expertise.

He performs over 1000 gastroscopies, 700 colonoscopies and over 100 ERCPs every year, as well as being a UK accredited and recognised endoscopy trainer and European expert. 

As well as English, Dr Bansi is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, and is happy to consult with patients who speak these languages.
